Halibut are in our waters…. Don and Bob hooked into a couple of nice ones… one is 117cm (44lbs) and a 130cm (58 lbs) caught on a Megabite jig from Lighthouse lures . We were anchored out on the lady…

Halibut are here… my 35 lb hali for dinner
Halibut have been getting caught in close by areas. I picked up one on the troll… it was 108 cm and weighted in at 35lbs, another guide was on the hook and picked up a 133cm and an 89 cm, others have also been catching either by troll or on the hook. Loaded on my anchoring system today, so I am ready for some hali action ….. Lets go hali fishing!!!
New boat it’s a Boston Whaler …… Big Bank anyone
Picked up a Boston Whaler 16SL …. be a great for for running around lakes and possibly for doing some prawn fishing but I don’t think it will be going out to big bank….. I think the Grady White would be a better option
Is Winter Over Yet!!!
Winter 2017 will be one to remember and I wish it would end soon. I have been trying to get some upgrades done on the boat, but this weather has been slowing things down. My helm seat has been removed… the squeaking it produced sometimes drove me crazy….. There is now more room to walk by, without hanging up on the arm rest and now I have another tackle storage area.An order of some electronics should be in tomorrow, have another autopilot controller coming in and a 7 inch chart/fish finder in this other to add to the stern of the boat. Boat is schedules to back in the water the 3rd week of march. Ling cod opens April 1 and that the best time to get out and get some winter Chinook and get a bunch of white meat from Ling cod and rock cod….. Finally A Rear Station Helm Installed
Finally got a second helm in the stern of the boat… it will make it better when landing a fish instead of relying on the autopilot or running back and forth to forward helm… can’t wait to get out and try it out… Boat going in for a little cosmetic glass work and when it returns it will get a good spring cleaning and start loading it up for launching in the beginning of March. …. get out to get some prawns and also fish in the annual Sproat Lake Loggers Derby they have in Barkley Sound on the first Saturday and Sunday in march. Anxious To Go Fishing
Spring is here and we are getting anxious to go Fishing. Updates are being done on the boat, a diesel Espar forced air heater is being added, both motors have been serviced just a few more touch up things to do, washing & waxing ( Any Volunteers?) and then loading and hauling the boat into Ucluelet.
There has been some boats out fishing around Bear Island and Alley Rock, trying to work around some undesirable weather, when they can get out to our local spots they are getting a few salmon, some rock fish and a couple of halibut have also been caught. Ling cod season opens on April 1st.
Early season is a good time to get out and get a good assortment of red and white meat and some dungeness crabs.
